From now on, Red Color Crayon will occasionally present a series of posts tagged 'Keep Things Canadian' and where we talk on issues as they concern every Canadian. We will always take the ride with a dash of humor, common sense, and just the right proportion of maple syrup charm.

In recent times, United States President Donald Trump, has been throwing hard rocks at Canada. But guess what? Canada's no chicken, and we are not moved. In fact, we’ve got our own secret weapons: God on our side, polite and friendly people who don't talk back, and small businesses.
Facts about Canadian small businesses
Small businesses account for 97.9% of all businesses in Canada (ISED Canada). That’s nearly every business in Canada. Combined, these small businesses employ two-thirds of the Canadian workforce. And when they grow, they create more jobs, generate more innovation, make room for more quality lifestyle, and make Canada richer and stronger.
Small businesses don’t just make money; they solve problems. From tech innovations to eco-friendly products, Canadian entrepreneurs are turning big ideas into big success stories. Take Draganfly in Saskatoon, a company lauded globally for inventing drones that serve multi-purposes, including helping farmers monitor crops. Or Leila in North Vancouver, whose sustainable fashion line is making waves globally.

Small businesses help strengthen local economies. And when local economies thrive, they’re more resistant to outside threats. So, Mr. Trump, even if you did try to mess with our dear Marple Country, our small businesses would save the day by innovating their way around all hurdles.
A message for Ottawa
Still, President Trump's economic threat should better be seen as an eye opener. If small businesses are a strong asset, the Canadian government needs to make sure Canada stays unshakable with small businesses. Period.
Here’s the game plan we drew out during our Starbucks coffee break at Red Color Crayon:
Invest in Small Businesses:
The Governments need to provide advanced access to funding, training, and resources to new startups. Let's think of it as giving our entrepreneurs their own power plays. It's like saying to these right-brainers, 'Hey, here's the moon, go bring the sun.'
Encourage Digital Transformation for Small Businesses:
Helping businesses go online means they can reach global markets. That’s what agencies like Red Color Crayon specialize in. Yes, we are a shameless plug!

Small businesses need to be groomed to flap their wings and take a flight of no return into the digital skies. Not just having a website and nailing it quiet like a family's cat photo lifeless on a wall, but the need to make their online presence generate sustainable commerce that can hugely impact further on Canada's overall GDP.
Promote Patriotism:
Canadians are great at teamwork - just look at our hockey teams. If we share ideas and work together, we all win. Standing tall and broad-chested against economic threats requires all hands on deck and buying our local products and services is patriotic and soul-soothing. Ottawa needs to push this into our throats.
A Message to all Canadians: Keep things Canadian!
Canada doesn’t scare and her small businesses are mighty. Let’s continue to contribute to Canada's global standing by supporting our small businesses - by keeping things absolutely Canadian.
Anytime you buy that Made-in-Canada handmade soap, that t-shirt or hoodie from Harbeny, or that new tech gadget, you’re not just spending money, you’re investing in Canada’s future, your future, the future of Canadian kids yet unborn – a future no one should threaten. Not even Trump.
